From 2008 until 2011 I had the honour to be Publisher of the Prince George Citizen.
Unlike most publishers, I felt that we had an obligation to our subscribers and readers to use the power of the press to make Prince George a safer, cleaner place for people to live, work and play.
The Citizen championed a number of causes including cleaning up our downtown, pressuring the city and RCMP to address the growing crime, addiction and homeless situation with downtown foot patrols, buying and tearing down the old PG Hotel, working with Baldy Hughes Treatment Centre, writing stories on air quality, holding Initiatives PG to account, bringing promotions back to the downtown like WinterFest, etc.
During that time one of our biggest supporters was Dan McLaren. Whether it was donating his time, talents and money as a Director on the BIA, or supporting Northern BC’s First Gang Crime Summit, opening the Unattached Patients clinic, or bringing the Rocky Mountain Rangers back to PG, Dan was always there to work on behalf of Prince George.
A man with Dan’s business expertise and talents could work anywhere, and he would be welcomed, Vancouver, Toronto, New York. Instead, he chose to make his home in Prince George.
If you want real change in PG vote for a man who isn’t doing it for the money or the publicity, and who has invested his own money in building and creating jobs in PG.
I strongly urge you to cast your vote for Dan McLaren on October 17th.
